You put a plug in the drain and put non-detergent water in it and rinse your dishes before putting them in the drying rack.

Some people prefer the rinse the soap suds off their dishes before drying them.

It is handy for washing a small amount also. Saves water.

the small bowl next to the sink is usually called a *hand sink*
this is the place where u wash your hands before starting any task in the kitchen

I use mine to rinse things under the tap and to pour out liquids when I am using the other sink for washing up. Also if I have stale cup of coffee etc I use the small sink to pour it away rather than dirty the big sink.

I refer to mine as a vegetable sink and I use it when I am preparing foods.
