have you considered Satelite Internet? no phone line is required and it is an "always on" connection. Only drawback is that it is rather pricey.(around $50 a month or so).

there is also Cable internet. it is cheaper than satelite internet, and it is alot faster.

As for WIFI, you can only piggyback onto an open connection if it doesnt have any security, and if is within range. (usually about 300meters).

Yes you "piggy back" onto others wireless networks with a wireless card but there are things to consider; Is it legal where you are (since you are not paying for it, it could be considered stealing)? Will it be available when you want it? Will your neighbors allow it? Best bet would be, see if one of your neighbors has wireless and ask them if you can use it.

You can only connect to the internet via wireless if there is someone with a wireless router (or equivalent) within range (100 metres or so). If a neighbour had one connected to the internet and they didn't use encryption you could potentially use it.
