it's because of all ronaldo's tricks. he tries them a lot even in tight games when united might be losing. rooney on the other hand keeps everything simple. he'll only take players on if there's nobody else in a better position. that type of player fits in a lot better with their old school no frills attitude to football.

I think this is an english thing... the proof is the way Chelsea is so hated in the country while around the planet they are growing day after day like you could not imagine.

In the case of Rooney and Ronaldo we all can clearly see Rooney is good locally and Ronaldo is not only in the world but one of the top 5 in the world at the moment.
