I have had the same problem all my life too.

It's not from loss of blood, since you only lose a couple of tablespoons a day and it isn't blood that was in circulation in your body in the first place (since it was already bound up in the lining of your uterus, you are not really bleeding but only shedding blood that has already been bound up in the lining for two weeks).

The reason is low blood pressure. Do you have abnormally low blood pressure? It can get even lower during your period due to hormone cycles and cause you to feel faint and dizzy. There is nothing harmful about this, but be careful not to stand up too fast.

The best way to prevent it is to do more cardio exercise, that will get your heart more efficient at pumping blood in your body. Also on days you get dizzy, stay off pure carbs and sugars: they make matters worse by giving you a sugar rush and then a sugar crash right after, contributing to the weak and dizzy feeling. Eat more proteins and complex carbs instead which digest slowly and don't create a sugar spike in your blood.

Sure, since you are losing so much blood you need to ensure you are getting sufficient iron in your diet. Spirulina in capsule form is a very good way to do this. Spirulina is a sea vegetable very high in iron and protein and a host of other minerals and trace elements. Its very easily assimilated into the blood stream, therefore no digestive problems as with meat.

Also you need to eat more B12 rich foods during your menstrual cycle. This will stop the dizzy spells. ie: Yeast , liver, beef, eggs, kidney, pork, milk, cheese and fish.

Perhaps you should get a multivitamin B complex supplement just to be on the safe side. Go to your chemist and ask the pharmacist to guide you as to which is a good quality vitamin to buy. Beware of synthetic vitamins, basically useless.
