To change a fraction to a percentage take the top number of your fraction and multiply it by 100 and then take that number and divide it by the bottom number of your fraction.
Example 1/2 as a percentage
1 X 100 = 100
Divided by 2 = 50%
Example 4/5 as a percentage
4 X 100 = 400
Divide by 5 = 80
For a number just take your number and add %

To find the percentage of a fraction is rather simple.
For example, the fraction is 1/2
a) The top # of the fraction(numerator) will be divided by using the bottom #(denominator)
1 divided by 2=?
b) Since the numerator is smaller than the denominator you will place a decimal & follow out with a zero
1.0 divided by 2=?
c)When dividing you will have the decimal point present in the answer until the final step
1.0 divided by 2 = 0.?
d) Look at the numerator, in this example, as 10 instead of
1; & 2 will go into 10 five times
1.0 divided by 2= 0.5
e) To convert the decimal in our example into a percentage you need to carry the decimal point over 2 places to the right, if there is only one number after the decimal point you will simply place a zero in the second place.... 0.5 ---> 0.50, then carry the decimal over two places to the right (0.50 ---> 05.0 ----> 50.
f)Now just add the percentage sign to the end of the #(50. ---> 50%) So 1/2 = 50%
If you have a piece of wood the entire piece represents 100% or the whole. No matter how many ways you divide the wood each section will represent a part of the whole that when added to the other pieces will equal 100%.
If you divide the piece of wood into 100 pieces each piece will represent 1% of the original piece.
Instead of 100 pieces, we divide the wood into 10 pieces

If we have all 10/10 pieces we would have 100%
If we have only 5/10 pieces we would have exactly half of the original 10 pieces therefore its 50%
And if we only have 1/10 pieces we could look at the fraction that is represented & using the steps above-
1 divided by 10 = ?%
1.0 divided by 10 = 0.10 --> 01.0 --> 10%
To find the percentage of a number can be found using a similar model as the wood pieces being cut up
If you had to find 40% of 100 for example, you would use multiplication to solve it
To change a percentage into a decimal you just move the decimal point to the left 2 places......40% = 40.0
40.0 --->4.00--->.40
To find the answer, you:
0.40 X 100 = ?
100
X .40
______
4000--- however, the decimal point has to go somewhere from the decimal used in the multiplication problem, you count over two places to the left of the answer.......
1 place 2 places
4000. ---> 400.0 ---> 40.00
so therefore, the final answer to 40% of 100 is
40% of 100 --
.40 X 100= 40.00 --
40 is 40% of 100
Tips can be found really fast when you can at least figure out the basic 10% mark on any # presented
10% of 20.00= 2.00
Take that amount and divide in half to find out what 5% of the # is & add to the 10% amount to get a 15% rate. This may seem really outrageous to do that many steps to figure out a 15% tip on $20.00 yet, my mom(a school teacher) taught me how to break this process down like this until I could understand the concept of percentages, decimals & fractions.....it helped since I now work as an accountant applying percentage rates to customer accounts......

To find a percent of a fraction, divide the denominator of a fraction by the numerator that is to say the bottom number by the top number and multiply by 100
example 3/4= 0.75 x 100= 75% After you take the fraction and putting it into decimal form it becomes easier because when you multiply any decimal by 100 you move the point 2 spaces to the right.
To find a percent of just a number you essentially do the same thing.
example 1.25
just multiply by 100 or move the decimal point 2 spaces to the right 1.25= 125%
example .456= 45.6%
17.50= 1750%

first i will tell u how to find out the percentage of a fration
say tht you have got 20 marks out of 50 in an exam
i.e. 20/50
now u want to know ure percentage . so all tht u have to do is just multiply it with 100.
i.e. 20/50 * 100.
then you have to simplify this .
i.e. _20 * 100 ( note: im using an underscore insteadof a division
50 sign)
first we cancel the zeroes.
i.e. it becomes _2 * 100
5
then we divide 100 by 5 . i.e . it becomes 2 * 20 = 40 %
now lets take another example of an improper fraction like
2 4/5.
step 1: first the number is written as 2 _4

step2: then we convert it into an improper fraction
i.e._(2 * 5) + 4 = 10 +4 = 14_ = 14/ 5

step3: then we convert it into percentage by multiplying this ratio by 100 just as how we had done it before.
note: to find the percentage of a number say 23 we cannot find it out unless it is in the form of a fraction. like 23/6 or so on. instead we just take it as 23 %

To simplify a fraction first you have to divide the numerator...that's the top number...by the denominator...that's the bottom number. Then, after you have the quotient...that's the answer...you mulitply it by 100 and you have your percent. here's and example:
1/5=_% 1/5=.2 .2*100=20% 1/5=20%
