You see I want to get a guinea pig, my mom knows i can handle it coz i'm responsible enough. But then she doesn't want cos she thinks they'll attract rats? Do they attract rats in anyway, their food or scent or somethink? I told her that any kind of food will attract rats but she still refuses? any advice?

i have 5 pets. 2 golden retrievers, 2 turtles, 1 jindo. the guinea pigs will stay up in my room separated

the pest control comes in weekly, rats are rare, like twice or once a year

I never heard of this before. It sounds like your mother is not ready for you to have a pet. Talk again to her about her concerns.
It may be best to wait a bit, maybe 'pet sit' one this summer and see how it goes. Find out if you really have the time and money to care for a pet.

I Have A Guinea Pig ( He is adorable ! ) And I Have Never Had A Problem With Rats . It sounds to me that your mum may be making an excuse not to get one :P

Do you have a rat problem to begin with? If you haven't a rat issue around your home, you won't get them just because you got a guinea pig.

Guinea pigs don't attract rats their food does :)

if u are only getting one tell your mom this, my son used to raise them. we lived in the city and the country. we had anywhere from 2 to 20 or so at any given time. i never saw a rat anywhere in or outside of the house.
