Are they plastic and do you put them into a dishwasher? If they are and you do that is WHY they smell. Plastic bottles should be washed by hand. As far as sterilzing goes...I don't know of anyone who has sterilized a bottle in over 40 years...You don't have to these days...but check with your doctor to be sure.

Do you wash them by there-selves? Or after you wash your other dishes? Cause that could cause the problem. And I agree with the other lady who said who has boiled bottles in 40 years. Another thing when you dry the bottles do they sit open side down on a flat surface? That can cause the air to grow stale and the water to cause a old moldy smell almost like when you forget to get the clothes out of the washer for a day and they are closed up. To try and and save the bottles if you want to fill an 8 ounce bottle with water and a teaspoon of bleach. Let it sit over night and then wash a couple of times and rinse. The bleach kills the bacteria. And I know people are going to read this and say bleach will hurt the baby. No it want I have 4 children and this is how I washed there bottles at least once every 4 or 5 washing. And they were and are perfectly healthy. That's why you wash and rinse several times. And if you still can't get the smell out just break down and buy new bottles. Good luck :)

Are you using plastic or glass bottles? Glass bottles are best for baby because plastic bottles emit toxic properties through temperature change, both hot and cold.
You may not be washing your bottles thoroughly. Try running them through the dishwasher. Make sure you dry the bottles upside down on a rack. The smell could be coming from mildew forming from sitting water, if you're drying them right side up. Make sure they are completely dry before you use them. Also, if you are using a cloth to wash the bottles, use a fresh/clean one per wash.
If you are drying them on a paper towel make sure you are using a fresh/new one; the same goes if you are drying them on a cloth towel, use a fresh/clean one each time.
Use a bottle brush to scrub out the insides really well, reaching all the corners; consider replacing this often. You should also try boiling them in a huge pot of water. You're supposed to do that anyway, about once or twice a week to disinfect them.
The smell could be coming from your water, if you're washing with unfiltered tap water. Consider buying a water filter that you can attach to your water spout.
If I were you, I wouldn't allow my baby to drink out of stinky bottles. Usually, foul smells are produced by bacteria/filth. The baby could get sick.
Get your water tested. You really should replace the entire set of bottles at least once though the course of the baby's nursing stage.

my mom is a doctor & she told me to boil the bottle dailly for 5 mints, & u should boil the water for 15 mints.dont use the same bottle for long time, say throw it after 3-4 months, but keep changing the nipples for 15-20 days....
keep extra bottles, for eg, keep using 2 bottles, so if u r using one, u can boil the other one....if u r using formula milk, then wash the bottle with the dishwasher.

if your baby finishes up the milk in the bottle, wash it immediately with water because the milk, if it stayed in the bottle, it would really smell nasty.. and then thoroughly wash it baby soap/dishwashing liquid.. and then sterilize the bottles for abt 5mins or as long as the baby bottles won't melt.. just hot enough to kill all the bacterias/germs.. that should do it..

U have to sterlize it.That is u have to put the bottle in boiling water and should leave it boil for atleast 30 minutes.Only then the microorganisms will be killed and the bottle wont smell bad.Its a must to sterlize baby's feeding bottle everday.
