It isn't an equation, as it hasn't been set equal to anything. Therefore there is not enough information to solve.

No equal sign ( = ), no equation and nothing to solve.

What you have is a 3'rd order polynomial in x (with a 'free parameter' k). But there's not much to 'solve'
