It is the study of how groups of people interact and what affects those interactions.

Instead of dealing with one person's issues. A social Psychologist for example, might be called in by community leaders, to find out what is causing an increase in teen suicides. What is causing gangs to increase.

They study and help with problems such as why groups of people in a community may be having on going conflicts. Deals with cultural differences and how culture diversity or lack of it affects a given area, etc.
