Hello,

(ANS) I once talked to a head hunter (recruiter) for IBM at an IT recruitment fair. I was asking him what kind of people he looked for too come and work for IBM. I was quite suprised by his answer, he said he looked for people who were artistic, creative types, people who had a talent for lateral thinking.

So I said what about people who do computing degree's at university, He said the problem with IT degree's is that YES! theres a vast amount of theory but I wouldnt employ a candidate with an IT degree because they are useless at problem solving.

And for problem solving you need people who think laterally not logically and thats the difference. Artistic people are MUCH better at IT problem solving because of this.

**Plus you can teach or train artistic people the required theory anyway.

**Problem solving in IT is essentially a practical knowledge based disaplin, not a science.

**Of course IT or computing are NOT so far removed from psychology anyway.

To be honest a computing degree is practically worthless these days. The only qualifications that matter in IT are professional ones i.e. by a recognised company like Cisco or Microsoft.

A computing degree may help you get your first step on the ladder in say a helpdesk environment but not a lot more, experience is more key than paper qualifications which is often the case.

A good course of action might be to look at a course which will give you a year out in industry so you get experience whilst still in education. That's what I did and haven't looked back since.

Cant get the relation or similarity between Psychology and Computer Science, I think these are two very different things,
First you should decide, you are a technical person or not, means just like answer questions in yes/no, or you are the person going in detail of every thing to see even from where it originated.
Then if you think you are not technical or you cant think technically(or in yes/no) then you should go for the Psychology, and if you think otherwise then for computer.
To have a computer degree, I think one has to have the following.
1. Good Mathematics.
2. Ability to think logically
2. Good IQ
3. Ready to work hard
4. ability to think outside the box.

No one can really tell you what you can do.
What do you like?
Do you have time to think about it?
If yes which one of those two courses you can imaging your self?
Don't you chose your answer only by thinking the money.
Money is not everything.
You will spend the rest of your live working in this kind of jods.
It has to be something that you like and enjoy doing.
I have a computer degree and yes it's difficult.
But if you really like something then just follow your hart, and you will be fine....
I'm sure that you can do one of those courses.
The final answer is yours...

About your only shot, would be some sort of data entry jobs. There are just too many qualified people with degree's for all the other - programming, analyst, security, etc. positions.

I wouldn't say it's diffcult becasue computing is just common sence but you still need to put 3yrs of your time in to it. I'd say the psychology degree would be more intressting though
