I would sugest buying the latest version of Norton antivirus. You also need a fire wall. These evil folks get into your computer just to place virus as well as steal information. I have been using Norton since 99. I also keep up with the updates. We are still safe. Many folks don't understand Norton, so they don't like it. I know others that had AVG and they also got infected with virus and as many times as they had to call a Tech out to fix the damage they had bought their computer over 3 times. If you have trouble understanding how to install it, just call the help line or take it in to the local computer shop, the ones with a good reputation. Best Buy has good ones. " the Geek Squad ". Also try going to moicrosoft.com and download the larest protection for your computer.

peter h - I had similar problems and as I am not a fundi on computers I tried all sorts of methods. Eventually I came across some absolutely excellent advice given my one of the readers : "anotherfugitiveontherun".
After much deliberation and trial and error (remember each computer is different i.e ram. cpu etc), the following are the most suited to my machine and I can give you my assurance that it really works!!
1 Install MOZILLA FIREFOX and use it as your browsers. I believe as the reader told me that it is preferable to Windows Internet Explorer.
2 Install AVIRA Antivirus. I tried Avast and found it to slow down my machine ONLY because I have an OLD machine
3 Install a little gem called CCLEANER. It is a superb little program to clean your pc of all that is not needed
4 Install COMODO FIREWALL - do NOT use Windows Firewall. You will find this an excellent firewall! MOST important thing for our pc.
5 Install SpyBot Search & Destroy - works well. I have been using it for quite some time now and it really works
6 Install Ad-Aware SE personal - I used this program for a while as well and found it to be easy and extremely good.
As this reader explained some programs are heavy on the resources of the pc, but the above he and I discovered are very light on the resources of the pc. Each time I complained about a program he would install another on his pc, run it, test it and then e-mail it to me. We eventually came up with the above 6. NOW I am running smootlhy and I am very happy with my pc.
I hope it helps and should it do so, please post a note of thank addressed to "anotherfugitiveontherun" as he should get the credit for all this!!

Remove it in safe mode.
For Windows XP
If the computer is running it is best to shut down Windows and then turn off the power.
Begin by first clicking on the Start Button and then click on Turn Off Computer.
Now click on the Turn Off red colored icon to shut down your computer system.
It is best to wait between 15 to 30 seconds before you turn your system back on.
Turn on your computer and start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
Some Computers may display a keyboard error message if you begin tapping F8 too quickly.
Restart your computer again and begin tapping the F8 key a brief second or two later.
When the Windows Advanced Options Menu appears, Choose the Safe Mode option and hit Enter.
Windows will now boot your computer up in Safe Mode.
