Because it's easier to make fun of or bully a minority than admit that they have nothing worthwhile to say, or to offer the world.

Sadly, I don't think that will ever change, there are always going to be waste of space idiots around. I feel sorry for them and their sad, pathetic existences. I can hold my head high and say "I'm a good person" how many of them can say the same?

My wife and I are both disabled. I find the hardest thing about it is trying to keep a positive attitude every day and keep the pain under control. I understand where you are coming from, too. People can be very rude and thoughtless. To look at me, I look normal other than a limp which is worse some days more than others, so people think you can't possibly be in pain 24/7. They think when I say I'm hurting, that it's like an ache they would have that I should just deal with and get over. Trying to make people understand your physical problems and the depression that comes with it, is certainly challenging. Also, trying to get help from "the system" is almost impossible. They make you feel like a 3rd class citizen. I have worked since I was 16 and have served my country in the military. I would give anything to have my career and my life back. It is a daily challenge to accept where I am now.

If you ask a child..........his answer is either "mean people" or "I'm not disbled, I'm just me, differently abled". For adults people who just do not understand, even if its no fault of their own. People assume because a person is unable to walk that they can not hear and always shout and talk slow etc. Society has become too fast, everyone rushing around, if someone is a bit slower in anyway then they get frustrated at that person etc. I strongly believe that children need to be taught in school acceptance, inclusion, and not to be afraid of people who do things a little or even alot different than most. Patience and Tolerance for all.

I'm disabled too and get the comments and attitudes that are either insulting or just ignorant. I've mostly learned to live with them, brushing them aside. But things still hurt somewhat, and I live with this.

Perhaps their attitudes will change if/when they get something as or more disabling in their future.

Good luck! Rob

i work with people with profound disabilities and special needs and its peoples ignorance and lack of information that makes them discriminate against disabled people. also its the part the media portray disabled people i.e. andy in little Britain.
if more people would learn to empathiseit would make it easier

We are limited only by our imagination. Some people are rude, others just ignorant. If sincere, the quest for knowledge of all things and all aspects is wonderful. Peace and happiness to you.
