I remember a time not too long ago, when you had protection from the unions for fair pay and conditions. Now my Son and Daughter are treated unfaily at work kept on temporary contracts and any other employment scams available. The hospitals are falling apart and Doctors in general don't want to know about the elderly any more. Our rates exceed inflation year by year and we never have enough water even though it rains non stop. We are building crap houses, and don't seem to have learnt from the sixties. Local councils are only interested in profits. Stopping one air flight could contribute more to helping the environment than a weeks collection of cardboard in London, yet the government blames us and is looking to make money from heavy fines for leaving waste paper outside of dumping skips. I could go on, but who feels the same way about our country? Am I Just old and grumpy?

Yes, it's depressing. Unions aren't what they used to be. Actually, some states legilatures have outlawed unions! I think it's horrible. And the other things I agree with too. We'd have money if all the companies weren't allowed to send all of their jobs overseas... and if our citizens woke up and quit buying products made in foreign countries that supports their economy and not ours. If you're just old and grumpy, that must make me just young and grumpy.

I am right with you, grumpy or not, the country has been led a merry dance by the Pied-Piper that currently holds the reigns.
In all honesty I do not know if it is 100% their fault or if it is a Global problem, the problem I speak of is greed.
When I grew up, or should I be saying "back in the good 'ol days" people were happy with what they had, happy to make a small profit and employ a small number of people and make a living. Now it seems there is a strange (and if honest I cannot see how it is sustainable) approach that everyone is for sale. Those that have money will make more money and those with none will get less, and worse than that, they will be seen as commodities at the same time. It makes for a country that, on top of all the other problems that have been brought on us, is on edge. Few being happy on a day-to-day basis.
One thing is certain, those in charge may not be 100% to blame, but they are in charge of the country and what the people want and need. It has become obvious that they are not capable of delivering.
Example of the current state of affairs and blatant want for money: You need an Operation, you need to plan for the future so you ask how long the wait will be, you are NHS and so it will be 18-24 months ... You come into some money, you pay for the operation as a Private patient, the wait will then only be 1-2 months. Oh and by the way, the operation will be in the same place. Does it matter you have paid into your Nat.Ins. all your working life ? Of course it doesnt ... this is a two-tier society and the gap is growing.
All this and I havent even touched on "Political Correctness", "Immigration", "Money for Illegal Wars vs Money for Our Country", "The EU" .... etc. etc. etc.

No, you're not old and grumpy. You are probably just of an age (like myself) where you remember what it felt like to have hope. People can blame the Government, Media or whatever for the state of the country today, but I think we've just been bombarded with gllom and doom for the last few years, if its not war thats going to kill us its terrorism, if its not terrorism its the weather, if its not the weather its gun crime etc. We have loud mouthed idiots going on and on about immigration ruining this country, without realising that 500000 families moved AWAY from the UK in the last year, the population of the world is fluid now in a way it wasn't in the past. I think what we need to remember is what a great country this is, for all its faults, we still live in the top percentage of the world when it comes to health, housing etc. It would be nice to see people giving a damn about each other and making an effort to make this country better, rather than whinging about the problems. We need to be more positive and count our blessings once in a while.

Well, thats what I'm trying to do, and it seems to be working!

Nope - you're not

I've watched society being dismantled over the last 20 years ( I'm in Housing Management) and I despair at the buck-passing that goes on today, particularly within local government. All they're interested in is trying to get someone else to do their job for them, and the fact that there' so little law enforcement on the streets ( unless you're a motorist)

But you know how it is - just so long as there's a new initiative to crow about ( and distract attention from the last Big Thing they don't have funding for now)

I'd love to emigrate, but maybe I'm too old now (50+)

70% of our laws dont come from us any more!! theyre dictated by Europe. so the changes that have occurred are likely because our government has to comply with the European superpower that is the EU. Unfortunately for us, our country has been screwing itself over ever since we joined. We only need to look around us. Billions of pounds every year go to European Union when it could be spent on schools, hospitals, public transport and housing, aswell as other important issues. Instead its being wasted on prison luxuries, supercasinos and other crap that wastes our taxes!! On top of that, no government ever seems to keep its promises, and none of them have the guts to admit we've gone wrong. Either that or theyre blind to it!!

I feel the same way and we are thinking of going to live somewhere else! The government wants to take away Christmas because it is not "pc" anymore, actually I'm not going to carry on because I'll be moody for the rest of the day the more I think about it! But I agree!

I feel the same, what alarms me even more is that most people I talk to feel the same so. WHY AREN'T WE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT? Why do we all just sit back and moan? The French would not put up with this, they would bring about a revolution. I really think we need to do the same. Will you be our leader?

We British are kinda pathetic. We moan and moan about Govt implementing things we dont like....but do nothing. Not often I say this...but I admire the French...when their Govt does something they dont like...they get out on the streets and bring the place to a standstill. Wouldnt happen here though...welllll theirs Eastenders, and football, and the pub, and blah blah.....so we just carry on moaning....then vote the tw*ts in again.....
