I was thinking about ordering some on ebay for my 4 year old...but don't want them to become a hastle. Do you have to buy food for them all the time? I live in Hawaii don't think they sell the food.

sea monkeys are very similar to triops and only live for a month. they are a type of prehistoric fish that have been around for centuries. they can come in kits but some don't, if they don't, you will need a tank - not too big as they find it harder to find food if it is too big. you will also need to have some sand for when they are 3 weeks old as that is the age they will start to lay eggs. you will need some food for them which you can buy from pet shops, the best is granules as flakes are too big. i would do some research on them first just so you know what to do. i hope my info has helped and that you find what you are looking for.

The above answers are correct, but I thought I'd offer a better alternative.
Try getting a Beta fish. The Beta (or Siamese fighting fish) is basically a glorified goldfish that will fight another when put together, but kept alone in a simple bowl or jar it is a very pretty fish that requires nothing but a change of water about once a week. (This is also as easy as letting a fresh bowl of water sit out next to him for a day and then just putting him in it.)
The Beta is very colorful and will spread out his fins when a mirror is held up to him. (He thinks it's another male and he shows off how big he is!)
A few flakes of food a day and he'll be happy. the bowl doesn't even need to be that big because they can grab bubbles of air for oxygen when needed. (They can actually live in a puddle, but for a happier fish I would reccomend giving him some swiming room!) Best of all they cost about 3 or 4 dollars and come in many colors. It's a great way to teach young ones responsibility and pet care. Good luck!

Sea Monkeys are brine shrimp. They are very small and very boring. When I was a kid, I got some because they were pictured as cute little humanoid creatures wearing crowns and carrying tridents. The box said you can teach them to do tricks. I bought them and was very sad they were brine shrimp. A week later they were all dead and the bowl smelled up the room.

Brine shrimp, about 1/4 inch long or smaller. Don't waste your money.
