if so how short would cut them and how would you keep him calm while doing so?

It's not reccommended to clip bearded dragon's nails. Some vets will do it for you if the nails are very overgrown but some won't do it at all. Instead of clipping the nails, try replacing the bearded's basking spot (whether it's a branch, driftwood or rock) with a cinderblock (if you have enough space) or something smaller, like a brick. Both of these materials work to file down the bearded dragon's nails naturally while they are basking and climbing. That's what I use for my bearded dragon and his nails always stay at a decent length. Good luck!

not very short at all as it can hurt and can bleed . possibly a cover over his eyes and maybe talking to him in a stern no nonsense voice you have to work out a good method for you and your pet as it needs doing often as it will be pleasanter handling him if claws are not digging------- in--- try different methods perhaps a few at a time instead of the lot at once so good luck have fun and above all else don't lose your temper and be kind as in a more natural habitat they would just wear down.......
