You have never been depressed. You might have been sad when your pet died but I don't think you have ever felt so hopeless that you could not get out of bed. I pray you never feel that way. If you ever get so sad tell yourself or have a friend tell you "Snap out of it" and let me know the results. Doctors don't understand depression so medicine is the best thing they can do. I think you need to do a bit more research on depression before you pass judgment on people. Depression is a sickness like the flu, Can you tell someone who has the flu to snap out of it?

Wow, you really are sensitive. I think some doc's over prescribe anti-depressant medication. I'm a paramedic in a country town and a lot of patients I see are on anti-depressants. Depression is a clinical disorder and lots of people in our society suffer from it. I also feel lots of people don't require medication. They are just sad!! People get sad and lonely about lots of things, it doesn't mean they are depressed. They just need someone to talk too. I moved to this town a year ago, left my friends and family in the city and for the first week I was very lonely and sad, I didn't need anti-depressants, I just needed someone to talk too. And I think that is what a lot of other people need, but it is easier for the doctor to write a script for some drugs instead of arranging someone for these people to talk too.

You may have solve the healthcare crisis! Just tell the man having a heart attack, "snap out of it". The woman with cancer, "it's just some overgrown cells". The kid having the asthma attack, "just breathe".
If someone has true depression, not just "I've had a rough
day/week/year" telling them to "snap out of it" is not like using a squirt gun of water to put out a grass fire, it is like
using a IED to fix a rundown house, you'll get rid of the problem but at what price?
I hope you never know the pain of true depression.

In an ideal world it would be that easy. But I've been there, and it's not that simple. It's bad enough having overly cheerful people telling you that there are people worse off than you, but it's no comfort or help to someone who has to struggle every single minute of every single day trying to find on reason to carry on living.

Heh! Heh! Doctors try to avoid the chain reaction.... not spark it!
I hope you're being sarcastic.

Thanks Tom Cruise for your enlightened views on Mental Health....
Its a chemical imbalance, they've proved that with research. Its got nothing to do with environmental stimulus....nothing needs to be going wrong in someones life for someone with depression to be feeling depressed or suicidal...
Besides, what difference is it to you. Isn't it better if depressed people just take their pills and then you don't have to listen to them being miserable....
