Silk used to make fabrics is made by a worm (actually a larva); it forms the cocoon the worm builds. There are plants that are called silk plants because they have flowers that are like silk threads, but they have nothing to do with fabric silk. Silk worms feed on mulberry leaves generally, although other plants are used as well.

Silk comes from silk worm, a close cousin of moths and butterflies. The silk worm lays eggs from which larave comes and after some time being fed on preferably on mulberry leaves(in commercial operations). they go into pupa (cocoon)stage. They are collected and boiled in water. The silk yarn is the cocoon, which is removed like a thread. Most of the silk dress material is made from silk worm.
There is also a tall plant called Silk cotton tree(Bombax mori?),which gives cotton like material with silk like finish from its brown dry fruits. It is generally used to make matresses and pillows and these days it is not very common.
This is also known as red silk cotton, kapok etc. There are two varities.
Bombax ceiba-grown in India, China and Australia.
Ceiba pentandra grown in East indies and Americas.

Silk is produced from the cocoons of the silkworm (Bombyx mori), which feeds on the leaves of the mulberry plant. There are also varieties of "wild" silk, which are defined as any type of silk that does not come from the mulberry silkworm (as in silk from caterpillars or other insects).

The silk plant refers to the Chinese silk plant, Ramie (Boehmeria nivea). It can be processed to create a silk-like fibre, but it is not true silk.

Silk comes from the pupae of silk worms. They need mulberry plants to feed on and reach the pupa stage. Silk doesn't come from plants.
