Putting a towel to cover part of the cage, is good as it provides privacy and place for him to hide. Though you can get him a little house to put in there, but some don't like the little houses so it might be best to cover part of the cage with a towel.
Well, if he has been in a pet store is he anywhere from 4 months to a year old. You don't need to treat him any differently then when you get him. Just make sure that you handle him every day and that he is loved.
Good Luck to you.

As long as the cage is kept where it is warm enough & not drafty, you may not need a cover.
I used an aquarium for my guinea pig, and never covered the top, until after I got a cat. Then I put a screen top on the cage, and put it in a closed room so the cat couldn't try to "flip" the top off.
Make sure to keep giving your "pig" veggies as treats! (And gp food--not hamster or gerbil food.) They love to chew, and need to do so to keep their teeth in shape & at a reasonable length (they are like beavers--their teeth are always growing longer... (there are wooden "chew toys" (basicaly soft wood stix) that you can get at a pet store for them also. :)
Enjoy your new "baby!"

You do not have to cover the cage of your guinea pig, and actually it's better if you don't...it restricts air flow...also what ever you do do NOT keep them in an aquarium!! Aquariums hold in moisture because of the glass sides and can cause major health problems in your piggie, and they are just not big enough! Make sure that you feed a vitamin C fortified pellet, quality hay (timothy hay), fresh water and fresh fruits and veggies.....check out this site, it will help answer a lot of your questions and has list of what you can and can't feed them..

a towel on top of the cage could help with the privacy that they need. i have a house that you put inside of the cage. my guinea pig loves it. get her a house and i think she will feel safer because they are animals of prey and quite nervous.

awh only one month old?
yes cover the cage, and make sure you have lots of warm bedding in there, if its an outside cage, as they can easily catch a cold. we used to transfer ours to inside carry cages for the evenings.
use lucernce hay for bedding or shredded newspaper

check his genitals, if they're developed, then most likely your pet is hitting 1 year old and a little older. yo don't really have to cover the cage, but it's good if you talk to your pet often, curdle it more and feed it from your hand. they will learn to recognise your voice, your smell and even footsteps.
