At present they are just enriching uranium, they don't have enough for a nuclear reactor at this stage, and that only needs to be enriched by about 1.5% to 3% to build a bomb requires enrichment of at least 80%. on this basis alone they are at least 10 years from having enough uranium for a small bomb, they would then have to build this bomb, just one mind you, and no realistic delivery system. So 15 years say to build an older style untested small bomb and primitive delivery systems, and as yet no indication that they intend to build such a device. If they were to build one they would let the world know, but one bomb is not going to go far is it, more of a way of saying 'we can do it too'. At present they are not a threat to anyone except themselves, they are attracting too much attention from the world super-bully, the only question is will they get smacked or not?

I believe Iran are after "the bomb",
See extract below from Foreign Commonwealth Office John Sawer Foreign Office Political Director.
'First of all I am aware that there are some people who argue that it is in some way unfair that the international community should be concerned about whether or not Iran enriches uranium. I would say two things to that. The first is that what Iran says they are seeking is access to civil nuclear power, no one disputes their right to that and indeed the six countries who have been engaged in talks - Russia, China and the United States as well as Britain, France and Germany from the European Union - have made proposals to Iran which would allow them really everything that any country who wants modern civil nuclear power could wish for.
'If all Iran wants is access to civil nuclear power why does Iran not suspend their enrichment and reprocessing which they no longer need and come into negotiations with the international community. And the steps which have so far been taken are at the recommendation of the IAEA which says that Iran is in contravention of agreements that they have made and that the proposals for sanctions were carried unanimously in the Security Council.

I don't believe Iran is after the bomb, the only so called evidence we have is the same as that on Iraq and we all know what a whopping big lie that was. I give Bush credit in as much that he has the audacity to try and make a fool of the public again with the same arguments.

Yes, very much so, And even if they aren't able to build one anytime soon for the next 20 years... The international community has a moral responsibility to stop them. Why? Because a great number of Iranian leaders are Islamic radicals who sole purpose is to wipe Israel off the map and convert everyone to Islam . Don't misinterpret my assertion, I understand that most educated Iranian people don't agree with the Islamic fascism that has plagued them for the past 40yrs,, there are those within Iranian soil who want democracy or at least some reasonable liberation of freedom. Point being, Iran should not have a bomb of such atrocious capability, what if they launch one at Israel, and Israel launches one back, and the entire middle east gets involved and the U.s gets hit and we start nuking----It's the end of the world or pretty damn near Close to it!!!!

Anybody who believes otherwise it not thinking along straight lines. If the total annihilation of Israel is the avowed intent of their little president, they are hardly likely to achieve that unless the use of nuclear weapons is involved. If - and it's most unlikely - Iran's president retracted his views on Israel, I might - but only might - believe their nuclear programme was for solely peaceful means. Frankly, I just don't trust Iran right now.

Iran is not developing nuclear weapons. It only wants to have the energy and it has all the right to do that.
The real reason of GW bush's statements against Iran is that he does not want other countries to be advanced. US want to dominate unfairly using all legal and illegal methods. These unfair policies raise the hatred of the US worldwide.
In addition, we all know that Bush lied in many many occasions and now, he is using the same lie he used to invade Iraq, WMDs.
In another hand, Israel has nuclear WEAPONS provided by the America. My question is isn’t they DMDs?? Politics is dirty.

They purchased the ability to create nuclear fuel and have purchased and built thousands of centrifuges that can only be used for the purpose of enriching uranium to the point it can only be used in nuclear bombs.
Why else would they go through all this? You do not need to enrich Uranium to generate electricity.

no they're not after the bomb, no more so than saddam had wmd's. i'm shocked that americans are so easily duped by these fools in the white house. when the EU replaces us as the leader of the free world, when we're kicked off the security council, and when the u.s. dollar is no longer the instrument of choice, the world will finally have a chance at peace and prosperity. we just have to settle with being the leader of the third world.

Yes most likely, uranium enrichment may be initially used for a civilian programme but nuclear weapon prolifertation could happen within the next eight years, reasons for this may be a counter weight against the West and Israel.
