I question all efforts to segregate one race from another be it Black History Month, UNCF, etc. Segregation is segregation in whatever form it comes. If we truly desire a color blind society, quit emphasizing race. The Civil Rights groups are just as guilty of perpetuating racial discord as any group of bigots.
I don't have much interest in learning about what a black baseball player or a black inventor or a group of black fighter pilots accomplished. Neither am I interested in a similar group of their white peers. However, I am interested in discussing how Jackie Robinson's talent and sheer guts brought him to the top of major league baseball. I can talk about George Washington Carver's inventions with my son. And I give complete honor to the Tuskegee Airmen for their skill and sacrifice. To me, they were not black airmen. They were brave and skilled airman who were black. I don't need Black History Month to recognize these accomplishments. It's part of the American history that I enjoy year round.
To focus on black history is to say that it is less than and not a part of American history. I have yet to read a White American history book. No reasonable person can discount the evil of slavery and discrimination. It is important to teach it as a part of history. However, at some point as a nation we have to climb out of the slime pit. I have no doubt we will bring stains and scars with us. But we will be able to leave the pit behind. To me, Black History Month is nothing more than another civil rights event. I pay it little mind. I really look forward to the day we can relate to each other for what is happening today and not what happened 200 years ago.

Hehe. I see your point. I have always been a supporter of black history, but cramming the same civil rights figures down our throats all month is the most irking display of a "We don't like white people because we were wronged by their ancestors and now you have to hear about it all ******* month". And to hear the ignorant people (of all ethnicities) in my school claim "You owe black people an apology!" all month is just painful.

Well, while Black History Month is important, other races should have their own month, even a week would be good. Whites don't need their own month because they have the other 11 months out of the year, but Asians and Hispanic don't. I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes. And no. Because it's important, but it's time other races got a week/month in their honor.

if every race had their own month or day or week or whatever, i'd probably explode. that would be pretty stupid and annoying. africans, sure they deserve a month or so, jews, of course, we have a "holocaust survivor remeberance day/week" or something, and the list goes on and on. but then theres puerto rican day, which i'll tell you is extremely fun to be in manhattan for SENSE THE SARCASM and all this other unnecessary bullshit, nothing against anyone but good lord, everything is so damn politically correct nowadays.

nah, everyone should get a month, or no one should, it's that simple. they were abused in the past, but so were everyone else by a certain nation at some time. i mean, the french don't have " british history month" where the british are put up on a pedistal because they did horrible things to each other in the past...

I didn't think the question came out wrong at all. Asians were exploited almost as if they were slaves (with death rates to prove it) during railroad expansion. And what about those Germans moving into Pennsylvania? William Penn envisioned a place of religious tolerance, but it wasn't supposed to be for German anabaptists. It was supposed to be a place of tolerance for QUAKERS, for God's sake. But we DON'T WANT THE IRISH!! Aww...we'll take them, too. The problem isn't when you want to advertise your achievements, it's when you want to play off old grievances. After all, you aren't suffering like your ancestors. In the vast majority of cases, you're suffering (if at all) from your own present day dysfunctionality. Most people resent that because they have their own problems to deal with and don't want to hear about how they should hang their heads for something they didn't have anything to do with.

These are people who have been denied access to education, and self-knowledge for hundreds of years. Black History Month is a pretty small way to make up for that.

I swear with your white folks, there's no end to your pettiness.
Every single day is white day. White controlled government, white controlled media, white controlled companies, white controlled economy.
And another group gets one month and it's "Oh my god, everything is so politically correct blah blah there's no white history month blah blah"
You already own the freaking world. Yet you can't let others have some recognition.
