How has he played this season? I haven't watched any hockey since the Flyers "went stupid" and fired Hitch then re-hired Clarke.

Lot's of great answers. I think I'll go the 4 days until deciding. Thanks for your input. Good luck to the Sabres this year.

You will LOVE Marty, he is great. It's sad to see him go, especially to the Flyers, but that's the way it works. He's a great team-guy and will help the lockeroom, and he's a great goalie. Even though he was back-up in Buffalo, he can be the starting goalie for any team in the league.

I'm from Toronto, not Buffalo.
However, we are a big hockey city and honestly radio shows here waiste their time talking about every little detail.

About 6-8 days ago, five very respectable hockey analysts decided to take a look at who they thought the best 5 goalies in the NHL were.

Three of the Five actually put Marty Biron in their top 5 goaltenders in the league despite the fact he is a packup goalie, and surprisingly, two of those five mentioned that Ryan Miller (Buffalo's starter) was not in their top 5. (though the third had miller and biron as 4 and 5).

Hope that gives you some perspective on the kind of goalie your getting... (he's actually quite incredible)...

I personally think that the deal that philly made for Biron may have actually been the best deal anyone got at the deadline.
Seriously, i was just talking about that this morning with some other hockey people.

Be happy about this transaction!

I agree with jkc3953 that Biron is not the answer so to speak in Philly. Alot has to do with the quality of the team in front of him but I gotta disagree with Joe Crow. The Flyers did spend the money just inappropiately. Clarke ruined this franchise since he traded Forsberg for Lindros and the last few years signing all those HARD NOSED Giant dmen to big $ contracts came back to bite him when the league adapted the new rules. This Flyers team is not much different from last years which one 45 games and totalled 101 points. Extract Handzus for Calder and it is the team but when you are 4th in the league in Penalty Minutes and your PP is in the bottom 4 you are gonna find yourself in a heap of trouble not to mention the Flyers struggle badly in the faceoff department. Surprisingly the PK has been very good despite the amount of opportunities and 12 SHGs but a soft goal against with those other factors usually leads to the BIG L. 5 on 5 the Flyers have been outscored 177 to 109 a difference of 68 goals in 63 games. Thats more than any playoff team in the West has given up period. Marty Biron or not, you could prolly put him and Nittymaki in at the same time and still not have the success a Martin Brodeur does on a Devils team.

His was a #2 goalie in Buffalo. On most other teams he could be a #1.

Biron was not satisfied as the #2, so much so, he never got his mask painted in Sabres' colors as he knew the trade would be coming. I think he now has to prove he is a #1, and now is his chance in Philly.

I think he is a good pickup for the Flyers. There seemed to be some inconsistency with Esche and Nittamakki ( pardon my spelling ).

Best of luck to him and the Flyers.

Marty Biron gives solid effort every night and doesn't make many mistakes. He doesn't let in soft goals and is always in position. Great player and a great guy to have in the locker room, didn't complain when he was asked to share duties with Ryan Miller. A true professional whom the Sabres will miss.

He's a great goalie to begin rebuilding your team around. He's good enough to start for the Flyers now, but another season or 2, he'll be one of the top 5 in the league, more then likely be better the Miller when he reaches his potential. I'm gonna miss him.

marty will be a good goalie for phillie but you have to have a good line in front of you too.i hated to see him leave the sabres but he deserves to be starter.i have watched marty come up thru the minors and he has greatly improved.i just wished the sabres could have found a way to keep him,it sucks being with a team that has a chance of going to the playoffs and then being traded to a team that has no chance this year.maybe phillie can pull it together next year.not a phillie fan but it makes you wander what the problem has been when they have the players that can do it but don't produce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Goalie is only as good as the defense in front of him
The Flyers are not an NHL caliber team, they keep trying to make one from their AHL Phantoms (coaching included)
They have proved all year that won't work
The Flyers need to spend some money,
Get some experienced NHL players,
Get them playing together as a team and then the goaltending will fall into place

He is decent, he's a bit overrated in Buffalo. He won a good amount of games because every time he was starting, Sabres scored a lot of goals. He's good, but I'd expect them to work with Antero Niittymaki at the starting position, but Biron will give him competition for it. I don't think Brodeur can help Philly win, so Biron might not be so successful until next season.

Philly got a steal in Biron, hes solid in net, and can easily be the starter in Philly (or most other cities). Definitely a good move by the Flyers.
