hello,
it sounds very much like the earlier stages of active labor... according to when you posted your question to now... I would say if you have not done so already; follow the advise of the answerers telling you to call your midwife again.... and from there follow her advise....on whether to wait for the standard three minutes apart or get yourself to the hospital...... sometimes all it takes is five minutes but regular and not stopping.....
anytime you call keep in mind... they will have to check you....so they will tell you to come straight in if there are any other signs....which you did not mention in either question...?
but if only the contractions? they may want you to wait... they usually have a ten or more minutes conversation with you on the phone so they can see how/if you talk while in contraction..... and then assess if they want you now...
it might be classic for the pains/contractions to be three minutes before the the fifth centimeter, but yours sound pretty steady.... if you have not been able to sleep thru them.. call!
sleep though, if you can.... they may increase, decrease... or stay the same.... regardless... it is labor... and soon.... deep breathe.... soon :)
congrats!!
good luck

Call the doctor first. Don't go to the hospital unless they tell you to. The tightening in th belly is normal. Stay calm because your heart rate determines the babies stress level. If your water hasn't broken then you should definitely chill out because the baby wont come until it has. Try walking around if you're ready to have the baby. If the pain is unbearable, insist that you go to the hospital in order to get pain medicine. This sounds like your first pregnancy so it may take several hours of this kind of stuff.
Good luck and congratulations!

Since you are term (over 38 weeks) and if you are having no other problems (bleeding, leaking fluid, not feeling the baby move, headaches or blurred vision), relax. You are probably in early labor. You could call your dr or the hosp/birthing center for more advice but they will most likely tell you to wait to come in unless you are very uncomfortable or having those other problems. Your dr may say to come see her/him in the office later if you do not go to the hosp/bc. Relax. Think about your new baby about to arrive. Walk around or lay down, if the contractions don't go away and get stronger...it's coming!
Regardless of what any of us says...call md/hosp if you would feel more at ease. Get ready for the ride of your life...parenthood! Congratulations!

You could be in actual labor but if they're not painful, I would wait. I had the same problem and many times, I was in what they call false labor. If you are really worried, call you OB doctor and see what they want you to do. I would time them a little while longer and if they don't get progressively closer or more painful, it's probably just braxton hicks contractions. Hope I helped!

What time zone are you in?
Labor is different for everyone, but if you feel your cervix "hurting" then you probably ought to get to the hospital. How far away are you from it?? It could be false labor but maybe not, so don't take any chances. Have you had any mucous discharge?
Has your water broken or is it leaking? If either one, then go to the hosp. But if not that does not necessarily mean you aren't in labor! Good Luck, God Bless!

with my first one.....my first contractions felt like gas. They didn't really HURT, but there were there.
call your OB and ask him what he would like you to do. Some of them want you to wait until they're four minutes a part before coming in. Other hospitals won't admit you until your water breaks, or your 4 cm.
good luck!

Be carefull every pregnancy is different. My friend had her baby not even knowing she was in labour!! Call your doc rather he or she is getting paid for that. They will put a contraction monitor on your stomach to see whether it is true or false labour. Check your cervix for efacement and dilating You could have your baby on the bathroom floor!!! Phone the doc...

Im sorry but the only advise I know of since I am a first time mother being only 29 wks pregnant is to call your birthing center or your doctor to ask them..The birthing center (your hospital) would be quicker since they are already awake... Good luck to u :)

If they get any quicker I'd phone the doctor and explain.
If theyre not bothering you and don't seem to be getting any faster, maybe wait it out for a few hours before phoning?
