The shower scene - There were between 71-78 camera set-ups for the shooting of this scene. The sequence contains over 50 splices and lasts for only 45 seconds. That's a lot of fast paced cutting, Janet Leigh ended up being in the shower for 7 days. The set itself was made up of four retractable walls to allow for the camera to be placed without restriction. The shower unit could be shot separately or attached to the full set of the gleaming white bathroom. To obtain the shot of the shower head straight on, the outside holes were plugged... the camera stayed dried but the crew was soaked! According to a number of polls, it is the single most memorable scene ever!

1. The film was made by the same TV crew that filmed the Hitchcock TV series, because it was cheaperto do so.Cheapness also accounts for the film being in b&w.

2. The film is littered with bird references. It begins in Phoenix, the principle female role is Marion Crane, in one scene in the Motel, Norman and Marion are surrounded by stuffed and mounted birds. The traffic cop who gives Marion a warning hovers over her 'like a bird of prey'.
