The possibility of being anytime is ALWAYS there. There are thousands of potential asteroid threats. I hear that groups are pushing the UN to host a collaborative effort on preventing the disaster. They say that they'll use rockets to change the course of the asteroid. Unfortunately, it can't be destroyed completely.

I'll bet that headline sold lots of magazines. And I'll bet that "Popular Mechanics" is very happy to have sold all them magazines! Now, if no other source is saying this is going to happen EXCEPT for this magazine, where does the reason of logic lead YOU?

Which is NOT to say that we should just forget about it. I think it would be a very wise investment to get a good handle on what objects DO threaten the Earth, how serious and immanent the threat is, and come up with ways to destroy or nudge them into a better orbit. Just look what that one asteroid strike did to the dinosaurs.

Hi Tex, It's possible and scary to think about something so terrible. By the time 2029 comes around i will probably me in a rest home unable to walk very fast and get run over trying to get away. Anything is possible. A Friend.
