This is a good start. Don't expect a cup from this though. The key is solid two-way hockey and a hot goalie. I'm not sure Flurry is in Brodeur or Roy status yet, but he could be one day. And the Pens D needs a real solid 2 way guy, which Gonchar is not. The future looks good for a dynasty if Shero can land a defensive leader or one of the guys there can take on that role. Let's hope Mario doesn't move them on you.

Contrary to what some believe, the Pens didn't get Roberts because of his play making skills and toughness, they got him because he is a leader. He is the type of player that the young guys on the team can look up to, get advice from and follow. He is just what the team needs as he will show the youngsters the way the game has to be played to get into and during the playoffs. In Laraque they get an enforcer who will dish out checks and send a message to those who think they can mess with Crosby and Malkin. He will not put up with those who try to intimidate them. Kwiatkowski is a stay-at-home defenseman and adds depth to a decent defense corp. Schaefer probably won't help too much this year, but could be a diamond in the rough for the future. Ray Shero should be commended for his outstanding deals and these will be looked back on as a turning point for the franchise. Outstanding chance to make them contenders. Go Pens!

Roberts was a bad move, I think the Pens have seen enough aging stars pass through... (see John Leclair among others). The Pens needed Laraque. Someone's gotta stop Crosbay's from continuing to be a rape victim this season. The prospects are ok, but please note that Darren McCarty scored 50 goals in juniors... doesn't mean it will translate to NHL production... As for the talk of a dynasty, I would agree if this team would have came along a few years ago... but since the advent of the salary cap, I can't see the Pens financially holding on to Staal, Crosby, Malkin, Whitney, and Fleury. Especially since Crosby is soon to be the highest paid player in the league.

with the injuries to Sid and Geno final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, i will no longer be able to she the Pens procuring and merchandising Staal at this factor. I additionally do no longer basically like the belief of shifting Geno or Staal to play wing. i'd disagree with whomever says Staal is harm services, till the foot harm, I do have faith that Staal hadn't neglected a activity considering the fact that starting to be a member of the Pens. looking decrease back finally season, Sid, Geno, and Staal basically performed 2 video games mutually, Orpik neglected a minimum of a month with a broken hand, Kunitz had some harm subject concerns, Flower have been given off to a terrible initiate and the Pens nonetheless finished fourth in the East. If the great 3 are all healthful, some good goaltending, and one the terrific protective corps in the league, Ray Shero i do no longer think of will attempt to alter the gang to lots, perhaps upload a three or 4 line winger. If the Pens have a sub par 3 hundred and sixty 5 days perhaps next offseason some style of substantial replace would desire to be made. After this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, the CBA expires, Kunitz is a loose agent, Sid and Staal would be wanting new contracts. Jagr, who cares, he's all approximately he funds. No way would I pay Max Tallbot what he have been given from Philly, good for him, however the Flyers overpaid. Steve Sullivan, is harm services, if he's one hundred% healthful he would desire to help. i'd have cherished to be certain Mike Rupp get resigned, yet terrific of success to him in long island.

Not quite yet. But oh so close.

Within 3 years people will be calling the Pens a Dynasty.

Give the young stars some playoff experience. Only way to go is up for that team.

I was pretty pleased with the chemistry the Pens had even before the trades yesterday. I'll miss Moore and Welch, but we've got some grit coming in tomorrow and I'm pretty psyched! They've been contenders all season; no one thought they'd be where they are right now...I love it!!!

I still don't think they win the East this year. I still pick them to get to the East Finals but not quite win. Big thing is as was said they don't have NHL Playoff experience. I think they are just as good in ability. Although maybe I thought they were better then most people did before.

I doubt getting an old man and a guy that fights all the time is going to make them a cup contending team. sure they have sid and malkin, but malkin leads the team with 29 goals. until both of them start producing more goals, they can't win anything. they are only two people who don't always play on the same lines anyways. but give them time, with malone and armstrong and a couple of the new kids they have coming up, they should be a great team.

I thought there was a chance that the Pens were moving OUT of Pittsburgh. Is that still true? I hope to see them get better. I really respect Mario.

Nope, it doesn't make them contenders. But who said they weren't already contenders before these trades? They were doing quite well for themselves before they picked up all those guys. All this does is mess with the chemistry.
