does anyone know where I can find any good information? or do they know a fair bit themselves?

Some seeds are dependent on light for germination. If you bought the seeds it will usually say on the packet.

Warmth is more important, until germination occurs, when they are actually exposed to light, since most of the time, it cannot penetrate the seed case.
