The best way to learn any language is to go to a country where the language is spoken and be mostly with people who don't speak English, for example stay with a family. If it is not possible to go to another country, the next best method is callled immersion. Berlitz uses it but it is very expensive (the best solutions to this problem are unfortunately expensive or require a lot of effort). Next would be some form of one to one teaching, again probably expensive if the teacher is good. Next would be a small class at a recognised language school perhaps attached to a University. Next would be a larger class at perhaps a night school, college or local authority. Self-instruction is not very effective unless you already know some Spanish and are familiar with the pronunciation. There will no one to correct you. You could try finding someone to swap Spanish lessons for English lessons, but this is not a very good method for beginners. There are some companies that will train you if they plan to send you abroad and the US State dept. has an excellent programme for teaching Spanish (and other languages) if you are accepted on their foreign service course. You must pass an exam, interview etc and be willing to work abroad. Just trying to think of every possibility for you! Good luck.

No need to go to college just to learn any one language. You can learn it through a self-instruction course and more by conversing with people in spanish.

Instead or ordering your maid around cleaning your house maybe you should try to have a conversation with her. She is very fluent in spanish.
