Ghazal (a category of song) is poem ,generally , containing 4 to 12 shers. It always opens with a rhyming couplet . The rhyme of the opening couplet is repeated at the end of second line in each succeeding verse, so that the rhyming pattern may be represented.
In ghazal every sher is separate from other,unlike the other songs, and therefore each sher has its own meaning and value. I mean in ghazal there is not central theme, the first sher may be about love and second may be about death.
Ghazal is just a form and so it can be in any language , till all the rules of a ghazal are followed. the lyrics is the soul of any ghazal.
whereas the other songs are mostly based on a particular theme. the whole song would revolve around one particular concept. And it mostly has the rhyme at the end of the verses.

Umpteen sites given by other yahooites may serve you better. As far my contribution is concerned, i would like to say that 'song' may be of any Length and of any content whereas 'gazals' are exclusively the outcome of melancholic perception of the singer with thrust on 'natural romantic pathos' or 'natural wit' rather than a song which is written and composed in verbose on demand.

Gazal woh hai jo bouncer jaata hai.
But gazals are too expressive and beautiful as compared to a song.

Ghazal is also a part of the "song category".
It synchronises classical music and the Indian culture.
