Go to the Asus website and search for your motherboard model, there you will be able to get all the drivers you need for your motherboard. Usually there are Chipset driver (handles all the small stuff such as USB), Audio, Video, Network drivers for the motherboard.

First of all let me give u a clear understanding of the term branded and unbranded,
Branded pc means a well known company has assembled a pc with most of the parts belonging to that compant. ie IBM the monitor, kb, mouse etc will belong to IBM whereas the processor, ram Haddisk will always belong to another company.

Have u ever heard of Ibm,hp, toshiba processor. NO! they all have intel processor made by intel.

When u say unbranded pc some local personel have purchased the parts of the computer form different company and prepared a pc for u.
All the computer parts belong to some organization and they have their own website for providing suport, it just may be after some years they stop provide updates or support a product.

So it does not matter if u have a unbranded pc u can still find the driver for your audio card.
try
www.driver.com
if the audio card is built in and the manufatur for the motherboard is intel
try
www.intel.com

If the sound card is AC'97 then i have tested win xp using the driver of win 98
it will give you a message that this driver is not compatable but it works fine

No the mobo drivers dont do the audio for you, unless you have the whole driver package installer, like the cd that comes with mobo when bought new.
Downloading from mfg site usually means multiple driver downloads.
I navigated asus site for you, this (audio)driver is called ALC655.zip, its
23.6 megs, version is A3.57
The link to page is :
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Hope this got it for you, I build my own puters too, drivers can be a challenge at times ;)
