...from "terrorist" attacks? If someone wants to create a bomb, deliver it on his/her body, all the "warring" in the world won't stop it! If someone wants to open fire in a public place, and there are no laws governing his ownership of guns, there is no way to stop him!
Look at Oklahoma City, the Olympic bombing, Calumbine, the Uni-bomber, etc. A "terrorist" act is, by definition, unpredictable. If we knew how to stop them, we would! What "war" would have protected us from Tim McVeigh????

If indeed the "point of war is retribution", why are we in Iraq? Iraq did not support, fund, or train the people who hit the WTC!
And, yes, people kill people...with guns!!!! Have you ever heard of a drive-by knifing???
But, that's just my little thing; I hate guns! (Maybe has something to do with the fact that a teen killed himself in my kitchen with a gun.) I AM starting to rethink this position, though, just a little.....

Not unless you want to make life in this country almost not worth defending. What we can do though is try to conduct our national policy in such a way as not to give those who would wish to attack us any good reason to do so. So far, in the last 30 years or so, at least, we have been doing the opposite; meddling in their affairs, bribing their leaders, supporting dictators and despots who oppress their people. If we really want to end terrorism in the world, we would all do well to examine ourselves and our leadership to see just how we are contributing to the problem.

There are no guarantees. There are legitimate things that can be done to make us safer.
Remember, Freedom isn't free. I know people like to use that phrase to justify sending our troops into combat but it applies even more so to us here at home. There are inherent risks with having freedom. Freedom is worth the risk.
As someone who has signed up for combat in a time of war I resent those who claim to be patriots and ask to support the troops and in the next breath say that it is ok to give up our freedom as long as it makes us safer.
Without freedom, none of us are safe.

You have a very valid point. You can't. Look at what's going on at the borders. The National Guard has to stand down when confronted by armed immigrants. They have to notify the Border Patrol and they take control of the situation. By then they have already passed over into the country. What sense does that make?

You cannot stop everyone that's true. One lone man or woman that wants to blow something up will blow something up. However we can, and have been for the past few years, be protected from large organizations like Al Quaeda that plan large scale terrorist attacks. Large scale attacks take time, planning, resources and communication. With due diligence we can stop 99.9% of those type of attacks. The war in Iraq also keeps these organizations occupied and less capable of attacking us in my opinion.

i agree with you. you cant stop someone from a malicious action if they chose to go through with it. this "war" is a huge waste of money, its a war that cannot be won. my only disagreement is where you said "If someone wants to open fire in a public place, and there are no laws governing his ownership of guns, there is no way to stop him!" columbine and other criminal acts with guns have nothing to do with gun laws. if you keep legal citizens from owning guns, only the criminals will have them. a law isnt going to stop someone from committing a criminal act, it wont even slow them down. it might only prevent future problems with that same person if he is behind bars for the first time he did it.

Exactly. You see the trees, and the forest - as it was, as it is and what it probably shall be.
"The point of the war is retribution and to make a point" - this kind of thinking sees the trees through a distorted sense, and then only in a tiny field of view.

In the politics world, US want to dominate using all legal and illegal methods. These unfair policies raise the hatred of the US worldwide.
The best way to stop attacks is to make others Love USA instead of hating it. If there are too many people hate USA worldwide, there will be very good chances to see people who are so angry of USA that they want to do something aggressive against it. Then, the chances of attacks increase gradually.
Again: The best way to stop attacks is to make others Love USA instead of hating it.
Kind Regards

Anyone could perform a terrorist attack if they wanted.
And regarding guns we have over 20,000 laws on them now. I think thats enough..
We just need to enforce the laws we have, and strengthen punishment for those who commit crimes with them.
And since you seem to live in la la land I'll remind you.. guns don't kill, guns don't turn people evil,People kill people.
Some people are just born evil and you can't stop that.
The point of the war is retribution and to make a point.
You attack the US prepare to face the consequences.
Is the war going to end terrorism? Nope! Will it make it harder for terrorist to attack America again ?Absolutley.. and thats the point.
If terrorist have to constantly flee, they can't set up shop like they did in Afghanistan and openly train to kill us.

You cant stop those intent on killing themselves and others. You cant stop people from being crazy. What we must do is wait them out. Eventually they will remove themselves from the equation

everyone should agree with you.
it is just like if i wished to hurt you (and i do not), nothing could prevent it if i were determined and if i didnt mind the risk to myself. this is not an argument to abolish the police or stop fighting terror if that is where you are going with this.
