I agree that they are getting more expensive, the items are donated and in my opinion if they sold them more cheaply they would sell more items and so get more money.

Although most of the helpers that work behind the counter are unpaid some of these charities have people at the top earning £100000 p.a. and also they have managers who may look after 4 or five or more shops and they are paid. Near where I work there is a Princess Alice shop where they have at least three vans with drivers who are collecting and delivering all day and that expense must be paid for. It just hurts me to know that 100000 people giving a quid to the charities do not realise that that money is going straight into the pocket of some already rich toff.

I fully agree with you here and think also it is wrong of them. However over the past couple of years it has become 'trendy' to raid the charity shops and find second hand beauty's. Oxfam and such places are fully aware of this and therefore have put a mark up on their prices as they know people will pay for fashion. They also have to compete to stay in business, why would people be bothered to rum-age through a shop when they can do it from the comfort of their own home on e-bay. As for marking a jumper more expensive than its original price that is crazy!

yep I have also noticed this ----some are run by volunteers I have worked in such a store and the aim of the store is to make money which is passed on to other charities if not absorbed by management ------ re the prices they are made up with what the volunteers think and sometimes on the high side as if not selling within a certain time they are drastically reduced------ some stores will negotiate so you could ask just be polite we are all human make mistakes and don't like admitting it......there will be bargains so enjoy and please don't get upset just find something else you like and maybe a spot or a tear will bring the price tumbling but with some people you just cannot reason so don't go there.....

i have noticed this too.
i think sometimes it's just the fact that people who price things don't actually realise where they come from, i have often come across primark stuff that was priced as if it were topshop, when the quality is obviously not the same.
however, it sometimes work the other way round, i've got two pairs of brand new gas jeans that cast me £5 each.... when they're worth around £70!
i reckon you should have told the manager about that jumper tho.

charity shops sell donated clothes. They might be good quality unwanted items, not all rubbish ones! I don't think they should be dearer than new prices, but I don't think they should be giving them away either. Did you tell the manageress?

A lot of them do seem to be a lot more expensive today I think they are being pushed into making more money but it doesn't actually help when you can buy the things cheaper for new.

Maybe they have to increase there prices, one time i think everyone used to tske there unwanted goods to charity shops but now i think alot of people sell there things on ebay and make money for themselves.

I think charities are getting much more greedy than they used to be. Charities are turning more into businesses than helping the good causes. You would be shocked how much money is (imo) wasted in marketing.
