Yes. Here's an example of security recently. not FAA, but same rules, same equipment (TSA, I believe)
I was going to the statue of Liberty. There are 2 places where everything is x-rayed, and you have a metal detector to go through. I had a pocketknife in my wallet. It was in the change pocket. It went through not once, but twice. I had forgotten it was there. 1.5" blade. small, but longer blade then many box cutters.
there was a case a few years back where somebody took an entire box on, along with simulated plastic explosives. he told them about them too, and they still were not discovered until several months later.
Airline Security is a joke. They check your shoes but not your baggage. And a full water bottle looks the exact same as an empty one to an x-ray.
In short, it's BS. anybody could subvert the security.

I think they could get through security but I don't think they would be able to hijack the plane with just box cutters. A few of the other passengers or the crew of the plane would stop them and if they couldn't I don't think they would be able to get into the cockpit with just box cutters.

Yes, hijackers could get boxcutters onto another flight. No, they couldn't take over a plane with them again. Now that American passengers and pilots know the stakes, the terrorists wouldn't stand a chance.

Considering what you have to go through these days to get through security, it'd be a lot more difficult.
I fly about 6-8 round trips per year. And the drill is to remove your shoes, period, along with emptying your pocket, taking off your jacket, removing your belt and taking any laptops out of their cases.
A co-worker of mine (who is a blonde) had her bag taken aside and scanned using a special scanner within the last 3 weeks. It found nothing, of course, but the technology is there.

In the past, airline passengers were told to cooperate with hijackers and do as they say. Now, the situation is different. I think people will fight the hijackers and not sit idly by. To stand by is to roll over and die... literally. As for security, my wife and I went to London and Paris out of NY. Guess what she got pass the security in NY? Mace, which was discovered when we got into our hotel in London, and she wasn't trying to hide it. It was in her purse the whole time.

nothing has changed. if they decide to do it again, they will. in a recent security system check, a group of armed individuals successfully made it through the security checks at various major airports. of course i won't be losing sleep over it. over a million americans die and get killed each year. terrorism is truly nothing to fear. our fear makes them stronger.
