Why are older people so bitter?

By older i mean people in their 30-40 that gave up in life. I always hear them talk about their high school days and how much of a bad *** they were, but then they start saying, "what if" only if" and all sorts of excuses that prevented them from doing something with their lives? At least, they'll always have their 1988 prom memories, which they never shut up about.

because of stress from work and raising kids and of course lower sex drive.
