Yes, Associated Content is a really good place:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/signup.cfm?refer=1556

Another good place is Gather.com

http://www.gather.com/viewArticles.jsp?memberId=81565&nav=Namespace

Both of these links provide fantastic opportunities for residual income which means as long the Internet stays afloat, but then there is always archived information that still makes money today. Give it a try and best of luck to you.

Try getting a book called Writer's Market. It's in the library and lists publisher's, what they're looking for, what they pay, and how to get sample copies. If you publish something, it's done and people will not go back and pay you later. I believe the last few issues (it comes out yearly) include websites that pay.
Never publish for free, it's ok to accept just a few dollars, because many publishers are just getting started themselves; but if someone wants to make money off your work, then so should you. There's no such thing as giving your work away to get your name "out there". Legitimate publishers won't see it.

I was going to suggest getting an updated copy of Writer's Market as well. It lists thousands of places you could get your work published, along with the approximate amount the publishers are willing to pay.
