I really enjoy this forum but why don't we all use the spell check after we write our answers. The answers are often intelligent, wise, and/or very humorous --- while the grammer and/or spelling is often atrocious.

Good question. I use an automatic spell check in my browser (Firefox) but even then you might think I'm misspelling because I'm using a British spell checker instead of an American one. They are so easy to set up, it is hard to believe anyone doesn't use them.
Grammar on the other hand is more difficult. 30 years ago, all over the world, grammar was taught in schools. It was noticed that girls didn't do as well as boys, so to make things better for girls, they stopped teaching as much grammar, and concentrated on other things to help the girls.
But now, boys are doing poorly in schools. It seems that our brains are hard wired by sex. The female human brain, is hard wired to understand grammar automatically. This has been confirmed in many tests done by scientists and linguists. The male human brain is not hard wired to understand grammar automatically, and needs to be taught when young in order to use it correctly.
We need to bring back grammar teaching in schools for young boys, but have different classes for girls, as they don't need the grammar.
Also, we have the texting experience to contend with, the reduction in letters and use of numbers in words to make fast typing experience. After all, say some, if you can read it, why bother? Personally, I h8 it and would love to have everyone use English properly, even the Americans who can't spell colour correctly.

Because sometimes it takes eternity to load the spell check. And in other hand, it's more honest to post an answer the way it was written, not the way the machine suggests you.
