I own a shop, and what I would do is this. Have some headers installed along with the automatic cut outs that work from inside the car. Hit a switch, and you can have it as loud as you wish. Hit the switch again, and you can have it back to normal, or in between. Many street racers use these, and you can control how loud the engine is from the comfort of your seat. Instant noise, horsepower, and just the right rumble to suit your taste. Now, what more could you ask for?
Part 2:
I see a lot of people on here are jumping on the flowmaster 40 and 50 series mufflers, and I know for a fact these mufflers are NOT real loud. Sound good, yes, Loud, No! You asked for really loud, and anyone has to agree, the only way to make one really loud is to take it loose at the headers with no mufflers. You can't drive around all the time with it like that, so this is why I said add in some cut outs. They will make it as loud as it can be got, period! If you define the word muffler, it is a component that muffles sound, noise, and power. Case closed!
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

We usually install a 50 series Flowmaster with 2 1/2" tail pipes. Has a great tone and very throaty. Sweet. This way the car is still street legal and emissions legal. Taking off the convertor and installing headers could get you a fine from the Feds or even local agencys.

You people that constantly preach Flowmaster need to broaden your horizons.

The answer to your question is this. The absolute loudest you can get would be to run longtube headers with an exhaust cutout. It basically dumps the exhaust right after the Y-pipe (usually). Technically, this is not street legal, but it is by far as loud as you can get.
Second loudest setup would be headers/Y-Pipe/Loudmouth II exhaust setup. This setup is also legal (depending on what state you live in, I suppose). The loudmouth setup is almost as loud as the cutout! Most people either love or hate this setup - I guess the noise gets old eventually.
My recommendation would be to run longtube headers, an offroad Y-pipe, an exhaust cutout, and a nice cat-back system (Magnaflow is awesome on these cars, not Flowmaster...). This setup will give you the noise when you want it, and can be muted when you don't want to hear it.

You can listen to some setups here. http://www.ls1sounds.com/headers_cutouts.htm

Hope that helps.

keep in mind open the exhaust up too much you lose torque but gain horsepower slower off the line but faster at hi rpms, get hedders and a cat back system from flowmaster. which is from the cataletic converter to the back of the car. you will like it...

Just Take the mufflers off and replace with straight pipes! Or put a resonator in the place of the muffler!

disconnect the Y-pipe from your catalitic converters and cut it out at the back of the Y-pipe
my friend got Flowmasters on his 01 and I did this to his and he never put it back on
he loved the new, louder meaner sound

straight pipes w/ no catillic converter, but I would recommend putting glasspacks on, it gives the deep throaty sound, like from the muscle car era, and makes it a little more legal.
