"a hotel providing travelers with lodging and free parking facilities, typically a roadside hotel having rooms adjacent to an outside parking area or an urban hotel offering parking within the building"

"a commercial establishment that provides lodging, food, etc., for the public, esp. travelers; small hotel / tavern restaurant"

"a house used as a temporary residence, as in the hunting season"

SO BASICALLY . . . motels are for motorists, inns are for commercial purposes and / or serve food or drinks, and lodges are seasonal and close during an off season
