He was slow to start giving away his money, but now that he is at it, he is making a diference t a lot of people, especially in Africa and for education here in the US. Of course some things he does are still in his self-interests or that of his company, like giving computers to schools. He gets kids hooked on his brand thus perpetatuing the success of his company.
That being said he still has BILLIONS of dollars and there are still people living in cardboard boxes on the street. To me that is unjustifiable. I could never sleep in a nice warm bed wih billions in the bank knowing there are children starving in the streets.
An I know all the arguments about how his money does more good where it is instead of being given away. But intuitively I just don't buy it.
Morally, the right thing to do would be to give it away. Just my opinion.

Yes, my understanding is that he helps a lot of people and most definitely children's charities.
He is very well respected and truthful. These qualities are hard to find in a rich Man.

Well, if he really wanted to help others out, all his windows programs would be freeware, or very low cost.
Gates giving away 10 million dollars is like one of us donating a penny.
He has forced other software companys to bow to him, or be run out of business. Tried to run his first partner out of business, and stole ideas from him to start windows and microsoft.
And Warren Buffet leaving his money to him is a real shame, when that money could help millions of poor and charities.

Listen carefully, all the millions he gives away (like Oprah) is tax deductible or write off. That money would have been given to govt. as tax to pay for Education, highways, police, and Social services.
They spend it on what they want then influence those people and countries, and cause others to 'worship them' as 'good' and superior people.
It's a clever con job.

Well he does have his own charity. I'm not sure what it's for but he does donate millions of dollars to this charity. His billionaire friends donate to that fund as well.
