Seriously... I can give text book definitions for transcription and translation. But I couldnt tell you why this is necessary. Help I'm missing the big picture!!

Transcription is when you copy DNA with an enzyme to make complementary RNA, which has complementary nucleotides with the exception of thymine (paired with adenine) which is replaced by uracil.

Translation comes after transcription. Transcription is like making a photocopy of a worksheet while translation is like filling the worksheet out. In translation, the polypeptides (proteins), or polypeptide chains, are made through codons. Codons, a segment of three nucleotides, are "translated" to find corresponding proteins until the stop codon (AUG?) is reached.

Easy, Synthesis = make
Protein = Oraganic compounds made up of Carbon, Hydrogen Oxygen and NITROGEN. Sulphur and phosphorus are often present. Protein consists os amino acids linked together with peptide bonds. so, the rpocess is called Condensation.
Condensation= A chemical reaction whereby two simple molecules are joined together and the REMOVAL of one Water Molecule.

why? to make proteins!

Transcription- basically the mRNA pairs up with the corresponding base pair in the DNA (Adenine in DNA binds with Uracil of tRNA; Guanine pairs up with Cytosine; Thymine in DNA binds with Adenine of mRNA). this continues until a code for stop is reached. the mRNA leaves the nucleus via the nuclear pores and goes to the ribosome. if it is a protein to be used in a cell, tRNA goes to a free ribosome in the cytoplasm. if it is an extracellular protein, it binds with a ribosome (that quickly attaches to the endoplasmic reticulum).

Translation-occurs within the ribosome. as mRNA enters the ribosome, the corresponding tRNA (carrying the amino acid) attaches with the mRNA in the ribosome. the next tRNA enters and the amino acids form a peptide bond before the 1st tRNA leave the ribosome.. this process continues until a code for stop is reached...

so..without these 2 steps: 1) the code for proteins will not be made and 2) peptide bonds will not be formed in order to form proteins
