10 (-9x – 9y) = 90

Divide both sides with 10

-9x – 9y = 9

Divide again by 1 ----> Divide by 9 and not 1

-1x -1y = 1

Add 1x to both sides--> -1y = 1 +1x
Divide by -1 on both sides and you get

Y = -1x -1

What you did is correct. If I understand you correctly, your difficulty is in getting from:
-1x -1y = 1
to
y = -1x -1

Here's how you do it.
-1x -1y = 1

Add 1y to both sides:
-1x -1y +1y = 1 + 1y

Combine the y's on the left side to get:
-1x = 1 + 1y

Subtract 1 from both sides:
-1x - 1 = 1 + 1y -1

Combine the 1's on the right side:
-1x -1 = 1y

If the left side equals the right side, then the right side equals the left side.

1y = -1x -1

Or simply,

y = -x -1

Hopefully that helps!
