I'm catching the ferry to Samos from Kusadasi.... not sure whether it's worth hanging around there or not.

It's not the best time of the year to stay longer in Samos island. Pay a visit to Athens and try to see as many things as possible there.

There is not doubt about. Winter time it is not in favor of tourism in the islands. Whoever Samos is a quite big city and you will be able to have a stroll at the streets in the area around there. Suggest to go to Pithagorion and Ireon areas 20 min from the city of Samos if you are in fond of ancient places, or another tip is to have a round trip of the island (will take approx 5 hours driving by car witch you can rent instantly with low cost).
Will suggest to see and decide by your own when in Samos.

If you go now, then no, don't spend more than 1-2 days on Samos. If you go later in spring or in summer, you can easily spend a week on this beautiful island, which has lovely beaches and a lot of green. So, if we talk about now, proceed to Athens.

What you can do now on Samos is visit the museums and the archaeological sites, if you like this kind of touring, which might take two days. If you spend the night there, ask anyone who can speak English, what is favourite taverna of local people and go there; I guarantee you will have a very nice time! Just only bear in mind that Greek dine after nine, OK?

Try going to Istanbul if you did not and ride to Bulgaria instead of Samos . We're in February, come on...
