Styrofoam could work, but you would need to cut it to a
sort of triangular round handle shape, you know how
the mike seems to taper down a bit. Or get a piece of
broomstick handle, paint it black, for the top, get some
metel mesh, like the stuff for window screens. make a
2" round cap for the top of the handle piece, secure it
to the top with silver tape . That should look somewhat
like a microphone.

what for a childs school play prop kind of thing??
I'd use the tube from a roll of foil, cut to size, stick a small ball (or something round) on one end, paste the whole lot with PVA glue and strips of kitchen paper then paint when dry.

use a length of broom stick and a toilet paper tube then cover the outside of it with duct tape to make it look silvery and be more sturdy, you will have to stuff the toilet paper tube with bits of styrofoam or paper towels to keep it on the broom stick before you apply the tape. have fun.
