I did the test right because one line appeared right away but then a light second line appeared. After 3 minutes, the 2nd line was almost as dark as the other line. How did these tests work for you as in indicator that you were pregnant? I was very happy but I know that it could be wrong right? Help! We have been trying for a baby and we want this to be right! Please let me know what you experienced. THANKS!!

Can you get a positive result from a false pregnancy? Can the HCG levels be detected in a false pregnancy (sac but no baby or anything else that would make the body think it's pregnant)???

2007-02-27 18:45:19 · update #1

What I meant by "two lines" was two lines showed up in the result window. One was the Indicator line as one line and then a second line showed up. I have done these tests before and each time only ONE line showed up in the result window. In these tests, at LEAST one line must show up to indicate that the test was done correctly, so in this test, I got TWO lines....

I JUST FOUND OUT TODAY THAT I AM REALLY PREGNANT! As I was waiting for my results at the military clinic, I suddenly got really sick (nauseous) and dizzy and got really pale. I had to sit down and I threw up too. While I was waitng for my doctor to confirm the results i was in a wheelchair and kept getting sick. He came in and told me the symptoms I'm having are morning sickness!! I was shocked/excited and half coherant so all I could say was "really" LOL...so I'm pregnant, this was the THIRD test I did (the other 2 were at home) all came out positive! So thank you everyone for all your answers! I really don't know who to pick for "best answer" because you all have helped me so much! I will pick one to be fair but please know ALL of yor answers were very helpful! Thanks!

You are pregnant. You are probably not very far along at all since it took a few minutes for the second line to appear.

You are proably pregnant!
Could I have a false positive? Check out The Truth About False Positives for an in-depth look at false positives. Essentially, it is possible, but it's unlikely. If you get two lines, you're most likely pregnant. Exceptions: if you have been taking certain fertility meds with hCG, the test may be picking up the hCG from the meds and not an embryo. Also, some tests develop "positive" lines after the time limit. You should NOT read the test after the time limit (usually 10 minutes, but check the directions that came with the test.) Yes, this means you should throw the test away and NOT dig it out of the trash in three hours to see if a line magically appeared. And, if the "positive" line is gray or looks like a "dent" in the test, it is an evaporation line and not a true positive.

Lastly, if you have been pregnant recently, it's possible that the test is detecting residual hCG. However, if a pregnancy ends early on, it's unlikely that hCG will remain in your system very long, so most women have nothing to worry about here. (It's extremely common for women to conceive immediately following an early miscarriage; the body is "primed" for pregnancy, so to speak, and elevated progesterone left from the miscarriage gives the next embryo a great shot at a healthy implantation. So, most women really are detecting a new pregnancy.)

However, the more hCG you had in your system when the pregnancy ended, the longer it will take to dissipate. HPT's can even detect residual hCG for up to 6 weeks following a full-term birth. It's a possibility you should keep in mind if you get positive HPT results soon after a previous pregnancy ended.

First of all the test only detects the preganancy hormone so it cannot give a false positive unless you've been taking hormonal meds, birth control pills, or antibiotics that could mess up the results. The 2nd line means in all likelyhood that you are pregnant, however, since hormone levels double every 2 days you should take another in 2 days just to be sure. If you see 2 lines then yep your pregnant... get ready! If not then take a 3rd or go see the doctor. If you are taking meds, antibiotics, or birth control pills then you cannot take one of those over the counter tests, you will need a blood test from a doctor.

Just reread the question. Oh yeah if the second line got dark you are preggo.

Still It's a wild ride. Go get another test take it first thing in the morning - hormone levels are more concentrated after a night away from the bathroom.

They say any second line is a positive, so you probally are. But the line is slightly visible to me on all tests, if this is the first one you've taken you might mistake that line for a positive line.

Best of luck and It sounds like you got lucky while getting lucky.

You have 2 lines making a cross in one window?? It sounds to me as if you are saying you have 2 lines. But what about the other window which is there to show the test is working. A dark line will appear there also, for a total of 3 lines for the whole test. The way your question is stated sounds as if you have 1 line in each window, indicating a NEGATIVE pregnancy test.

Two windows
1. A line to show test is working ( 1 line will show )
2. Result Window ( will show 1line negative. 2 lines if positive)

Congrats, on your new baby! The test i took had the digital screen that actually said pregnant or not pregnant! Personally, i think you are about to be a mommy but if you still aren't sure take 3 home pregnancy tests, and then go to the doctor like i did! I really wanted a baby, so i wanted to make sure! Congratulations on your new son or daughter!

I took the same test on Dec 27th and the same thing happened.... I haven't had a period since November... I haven't had insurance until just recently and now my 1st appt is this Friday, I would say yes you are... If you are still in doubt, wait a few days and take another one, and if you still have doubts, get in to the doctor and have them do blood work, that's always the best way to go, and I really do hope that helps you out. Congrats as well!!

CONGRATULATIONS...

How soon can a pregnancy be detected?
Your doctor can perform blood tests that will accurately diagnose pregnancy several days before you missed your period, or your doctor may opt to conduct a urine test a day or so later. Home pregnancy tests, like the FIRST RESPONSE® Early Result Pregnancy Test, are also a great option. FIRST RESPONSE® Early Result Pregnancy Test can detect pregnancy as many as 5 days before your missed menstrual period.*† Knowing as early as possible will allow you to get a healthy start to your pregnancy and your baby's life.

I just found out I'm pregnant. Now what?
The first thing you should do is make an appointment to see your medical professional. Your doctor can provide you with much of the information you will need to know about the months ahead. Learning that you are pregnant should serve as encouragement for you to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. Avoid using drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and caffeine to the best of your ability. If you are currently taking medications (prescription or over-the-counter), be sure to discuss possible effects they may have on you and your baby when you see your doctor.

What can I do about morning sickness?
Morning sickness can be one of the more unpleasant aspects of your pregnancy. However, you can do several things to ease the discomfort it causes, including:

Get plenty of rest.
Move slowly in the morning, as nausea may worsen with quick movements.
Eat foods that you know agree with you to avoid the nausea often caused by an empty stomach. Avoid irritants such as caffeine or spicy foods.
Keep a diary each day to help you determine what improves your condition, as well as what seems to make it worse.
If you find yourself losing weight or suffering from dehydration due to your morning sickness, consult your doctor to make sure you are still absorbing all necessary nutrition for you and your baby. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe medication to ease your discomfort.

Can I still exercise during pregnancy?
You must discuss this with your doctor. Generally, however, exercise will prove beneficial both to you and your unborn baby, as it improves muscle strength, muscle tone, and flexibility. It promotes a sense of well-being and enhances self-esteem. Weight-bearing exercise helps develop and preserve bone, and aerobic exercise helps stave off cardiovascular disease. Normal exercise will not bring about complications or miscarriage, though common sense suggests that you should not run more than a few miles a week or participate in rigorous activity after about 20-22 weeks into your pregnancy. Use your own judgment as to how much exercise may be too much for you, or create a well-balanced exercise program with your doctor

My first pregnancy test was that stupid line test (where it shows lines) I couldn't tell if it was positive or not, because it was sort of faded. So I went to get another pregnancy that would read Pregnant or Not Pregnant, I took it, and it read Pregnant, and it was RIGHT! :) Take that one instead.
