I visited my neurosurgeon today and he said my last option is fusion, L4-L5,and L5-S1. I am 27 and cant afford to be out of work for too long. The only thing left is Cortisone shots that I have been getting, then surgery. What is the earliest I could return to a labor intensive job, but not push it?

You will be off work for quite awhile, and if you have to wear a back brace it may be longer till you can do your old work. You will have to have PT and build up all those muscels again. I wish you luck.

I had that surgery and was told the recovery time was six months. I wore an electrode device for three months that was supposed to strengthen the bones at the fusion area. I can never return to a labor intensive job. I have had relief from the pain and the surgery was a good thing for me.
