Anal sex reached and sustained its dominance as a result of the "gay" liberation movement.By around 1975 the conservative influence of the dominant heterosexual population was assimilated by gays hence anal sex became imitated vaginal sex.To get back to your question. To the best of my knowledge some gays do switch roles,But there seem to be more "bottoms" than "tops". I am 64 years old and am "gay" and have lived long enough to remember when there was more choice. This gives me an historical advantage that many younger "gays do not have.Your question reflects the influence of anal sex on the larger population. The tragedy is that anal sex among "gays" has led to an epidemic of HIV.Not all"gays" are into anal sex and there was a time when anal sex was not popular among "gays".What you see is the obvious but there is a much larger number of us than no one sees and who do not practice anal sex.Anal sex is in fact not a dominant form of sex.It is a cultural illusion.

Some people think it is generally better to give than receive, and some people generally prefer to receive. Many are pleased with either role.

In any case, whether one is a "top" or a "bottom" says nothing about his masculinity. It's a heterosexist assumption that one person must be the "man" and the other must be the "woman" in a same-sex relationship.

No offense taken.

In gay relationships there are quite often roles in fact I would bet most are like that.

There are "tops" and "bottoms" and "versatile" most of my friends have their roles and if you get into gay culture you will see that quite often it is separated.

Usually their is one that gives and one that receives and that is how it is. However I have seen two tops together for years but they are also out there looking for bottoms to play with.

Some guys are strictly passive (bottom) and some guys are strictly aggressive (top). There are those, also, who don't care which role they play (versatile). I, myself, am a top. In a relationship, I prefer a guy who is bottom, or at least versatile. Two tops or two bottoms in a relationship wouldn't be very much fun, now, would it?

People do whatever they like to do. Many gay men do not indulge in anal intercourse. Many do. Most I know that do go both ways with the right person which means in a long term relationship everything happens. I might add that it is a very pleasurable activity in either direction. That's why people do it

Some days you like to eat peanut butter sandwiches. The next day, you'll decide to eat a salad sandwich. Same goes for sex role play and penetration. For me - variety. I top and I bottom. Where are you trying to go with this?

depends on what they enjoy sexually.

a person will be top or bottom if they find a particular role physically pleasurable. they may enjoy both roles. some gay couples don't enjoy anal sex at all, and don't engage in it.

each person is different. many straight couples engage in anal sex, too. many. they do it if they find it pleasurable.

i am a virgin... but if i was in a sexual relationship, i would not ASK to go for bottom.. i much more prefer the idea of doing the pounding...
but i would let him penetrate me if he really wanted to. so, i guess we'd occasionally switch roles... if i WAS in a relationshp where sex was involved... i would be willing...

Depends on the couple. It's been different for me in different relationships.
