Am I the only one who thinks there should be more done about harrassment in our school systems? It is totally unfair that there are laws to protect us at our jobs but not our children in their schools!

I don't know where you are but in Australia bullying is not tolerated in schools. Children are protected by law, even from other children. Schools that tolerate bullying can be prosecuted.

I would have though this would be standard in the western world but it seems there are still a few backward countries.

Well, the bullies need to learn too. Their time at school prepares them for serving sentences in prison.

Just tell the school a bully is threatening to stab you with a knife and they will have to take care of it :) Lying always works, stick to your lies though.
