I had a back ground check the other day and found I had a felony charge of grand theft filed by my ex-wifes' boyfriend from like 10yrs ago. The police told me I was free to go that VA was not interested in coming to get me. Is there a statute of limitations for grand theft after you have been charged? They have no wittnesses or any thing it was just him and her try'n to start crap ... I mean the warrant had my name wrong hair and eye color wrong at first then refiled it when they talked to my ex wife... What can I do to get this resolved?

ignor it. the statute of limitations is seven years or less for most felonies, but not all. also, it may not apply once a warrant is issued. but since they aren't coming for you, and since all the information was incorrect to begin with, who are they gonna charge? a letter to the district attorneys office should be sent to get the warrant set aside, but let a lawyer send it for you. don't try it yourself. all it will be is a dismissal of the charges and the whole matter is resolved.
you can contact legal aide for assistance in that.

If you have a warrant issued, they can arrest you whenever. I've seen warrants that were more than 10 years old. Unless you one day want to be arrested in VA, you might want to go ahead and take care of it. Just contact the county the warrant was issued out of (or city). It sounds to me like the agency in VA just didn't want to spend the money to go pick you up. If you had been closer, they probably would have extradited. It's not worth taking that chance of someday possibly maybe getting arrested. Get it taken care of.

There are statues of obstacles on many stuff no longer in simple terms crimes. reckoning on the state that you stay in and/or the state in which the crime dedicated, if you're no longer formally charged with the crime interior a particular era of time, you could't longer be prosecuted for that crime, assume for sure for a case appropriate to homicide, the position there is not any longer statue of obstacles. different sorts of obstacles comprise the alternative of debts by lenders. for further suggestion about that you would pick to communicate with an criminal specialist interior the state in which you stay.
