Of course I say "Hi'~& I've NEVER had a parent resent that; on the contrary, they like it when I get into a conversation with the toddler (even if I can't quite understand what they're saying)! Say something cute about what they're wearing, or the teddy bear they're holding, & they love it. Sometimes, if the little one doesn't seem too shy, I say HI first....

I say Hi back. I hate being stuck behind a school bus though, and the little buggers make faces.

Oh gah, I love kids! I definitely say Hi back...and I have myself a fun little conversation with them. =)
I'm a mom myself...my daughter is 13 months old. I would feel terrible if someone would ignore her friendliness!

I smile at them and say hello, then nod at the parent as I walk away so they don't think I'm some kinda nut or anything.

I always say hi back....blessed are the children, why not acknowledge innocent sweetness and be glad you are worthy of a childs affection,or admiration even if only for that brief moment....always speak back,It,s what they are wanting.

I do a half smile then walk away. I don't want the parent thinking I'm a perv.
