this is a very good question. i like it. the peregrine falcon, Falco peregrinus has been clocked at over 200 mph, but is is gliding not flying, so is it really going this fast, or is it using the wind as an aid? the cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, has been clocked at over 60 mph, running on the plains of Africa, but, keep in mind the gazelles, Gazella thomsonii, out run them on a daily basis and can be clocked at over 70 mph, thus, I'm going with the gazelle, because they can also sustain this speed for long periods of time, where as the cheetah cannot, and becomes exhausted quickly, and then can't run again for hours, until it cools itself off. as well, the cheetah must use an ambush technique to get a handicap or it will never catch the gazelle.

It's the Cheetah. Even though the falcon can dive at a higher speed, it's only because it's dropping from the sky. If that's the case, an elephant is the fastest becos it drops faster from the sky.
