It's a really good book ( Seeing with the Mind's Eye by Mike Samuels). I accidentally left it outside where i paint, and when i came back from work i saw that it got wet.
I understand that once dry, it will curl and get all wrinkly, but there MUST be another way.....:(
It's a large paperback and there's about 300 pages to it.
Any takers???

I used to work in a camping program so my small paperbacks were always exposed to rain or damp.

What you do is set the book aside in a well-ventilated area, perhaps with a fan blowing gently on it.

As soon as you can handle the book without it falling apart, start READING IT from beginning to end, the motions of handling the book, holding the book open at each page, will start to dry it out even more. It should be mostly dry by the time you are done with the book.

It will be swollen open and the pages wrinkly and you can flatten it with a pile of huge heavy books (encyclopedia, family Bible, dictionary, etc) if you like, set it all up in front of a heat vent or fireplace. This will help a little bit.

It will never be like new again but it will be worth saving. And keeping the rattied up book in your collection is a boost for its little paper self-esteem.

Most paperbacks, especially the mass market ones (smaller in size than the trade pbks) are usually made with such poor quality paper, any effort t restore it on your part will be a waste of time. They are cheaper because they aren't made to be kept.

You can try ironing the pages with a very low iron, or putting the book in a homemade bookpress. Square it up, and pile heavy bricks on top. Your local library may have a bookpress they'll let you borrow (you'll probably have to leave your book with them. Bookpresses are heavy and valuable).

A long time ago, I was walking home in hurricane weather....my book bag dropped open, and my books got soaked. When I got home, I immediately set the book in front of a fan to help the pages dry out.

The book is going to get wrinkled--I don't think there's anything you can do to fix that, except put it under a heavy object/pile of books AFTER it's dry.

If you leave it closed to dry, and don't let it air out, chances are it'll promote the growth of mold, which you definitely don't want.

Set the book on top of a heater or fireplace while it's still closed and let it sit for a few days.

Leave the pages open and blow dry them? Hope this can help.
